Some neighborhoods are places to live. Bel Mar Shores is a place to belong.
That is exactly why I wrote "Bel Mar Shores: Tampa to the Core." It is more than a Fourth of July song—it's a celebration of one of South Tampa's most unique waterfront neighborhoods and the people who have made it what it is today.
A Neighborhood Built on a Vision
Bel Mar Shores was born during Tampa's roaring land boom of the 1920s. Developers envisioned a premier waterfront community stretching between Hillsborough Bay and Old Tampa Bay, connected by the grand El Prado Boulevard. Palm-lined streets, generous home sites, and waterfront living were all part of a bold vision that still shapes the neighborhood today.
While the original dream began nearly a century ago, the neighborhood truly flourished after World War II. Returning veterans and growing families filled the area with sturdy ranch homes, creating the close-knit community that would eventually evolve into one of South Tampa's most desirable addresses. Today, those original homes stand beside beautiful custom residences, yet the neighborhood has never lost its welcoming feel.
Waterfront Living
One of the things that makes Bel Mar Shores special is that life revolves around the water. Morning walks along the bay. Boats heading out for a day on Tampa Bay. Neighbors waving from driveways. Sunsets reflecting across quiet canals. And every Fourth of July, fireworks exploding over the water remind everyone why this place feels like home.
Streets That Tell the Story
Every neighborhood has streets. Bel Mar Shores has landmarks. Beach Drive. Belcher Drive. Lightner Drive. Omar Avenue. Spring Lake Drive. Euclid Avenue. Each one represents decades of memories, generations of families, and neighbors who have watched the community grow together.
Local Businesses That Keep the Community Strong
Bel Mar Shores has always supported local businesses, and that's part of what gives the neighborhood its personality. Whether you're grabbing Italian food from Luigi's Kitchen, spending an evening with friends at Dead Bob's Too, stopping by Momentum Tattoo, or seeing the craftsmanship at Outdoor Accents of Florida, these locally owned businesses help make South Tampa feel like home. They're part of the neighborhood's story just as much as the streets themselves.
More Than Beautiful Homes
People often notice the impressive waterfront homes first. Residents know the real value is the community. It's neighbors checking on each other. Families decorating their homes in red, white, and blue. Kids riding bikes until sunset. Boats flying American flags. Front yards filled with laughter. It's a neighborhood that remembers where it came from while continuing to grow into the future.
Why I Wrote This Song
As a South Tampa Realtor who grew up in this community, I wanted to create something different. Not another market update. Not another neighborhood tour. I wanted to tell the story of Bel Mar Shores through music. Every neighborhood has a history. Every street has memories. Every community deserves an anthem.
So this Fourth of July, turn it up loud. Wave your American flag. Celebrate your neighbors. Celebrate South Tampa. Celebrate Bel Mar Shores. Because around here… Bel Mar Shores is Tampa to the Core. 🇺🇸
