There are plenty of beautiful places in South Tampa, but Sunset Park has a personality all its own.
Known for its waterfront setting, sweeping Old Tampa Bay sunsets, and streets named after some of literature's most memorable voices, Sunset Park carries a sense of history that feels both classic and alive. On streets like Tennyson Avenue, Browning Avenue, Poe Avenue, Keats Avenue, Longfellow Avenue, and San Jose Street, the neighborhood blends its poetic roots with the everyday moments that make a community feel like home.
This Fourth of July, that spirit deserves a song. Our new neighborhood anthem, "Party at Sunset Park," is a celebration of the people, the pride, the palms, the bay breeze, and the fireworks that make this corner of Tampa so special. Its hook says it all:
"Get ready for our sunset and party at Sunset Park, Fourth of July, let the whole sky spark!"
A Neighborhood Built Around the Water and the Sky
Sunset Park's story reaches back to the 1920s, when the Sunset Park Company began shaping this section of South Tampa during Florida's land boom. The neighborhood's famous literary street names are often connected to Alma Glover, a pianist and poet whose creative influence helped give the community its lasting identity. From early fishing and waterfront vacation days to the homes and families that fill the neighborhood today, Sunset Park has always been a place built around the water, the sky, and a feeling of possibility.
After the Great Depression slowed development, many of the neighborhood's homes were built in the postwar years by returning servicemen and families using GI loans. Over time, Sunset Park evolved into one of South Tampa's most desirable communities, with a distinctive mix of established homes, custom architecture, mature trees, and waterfront views that cannot be recreated overnight.
The Heart Is in the People
But the heart of Sunset Park is not only in the homes or the history. It is in the people. It is children learning and exploring at Butterfly Gardens, where creativity, nature, and a Montessori-inspired environment bring a special energy to the neighborhood. It is the familiar hometown feeling of Westshore Pharmacy. It is neighbors gathering outside, American flags on porches, families making memories, and everyone looking up together when the summer sky starts to glow.
Fourth of July in Sunset Park
Fourth of July is the perfect time to celebrate that connection. As the sun begins to set over the bay and the sky fills with red, white, and blue, Sunset Park becomes more than a neighborhood name on a map. It becomes a shared feeling. A place where generations have built memories. A place with deep roots, beautiful streets, and a community that knows how to show up with pride.
So turn up the music, wave the flag, and celebrate the neighborhood that brings poetry, history, and Tampa sunshine together. Get ready for our sunset and party at Sunset Park. Happy Fourth of July, Sunset Park! 🇺🇸
